Chrome may be the most popular browser in the world, but that doesn’t stop Google from adding useful new features to it from time to time. In version 108 of its software, the search giant has made available a tool to easily compare several search results.

During a search, after clicking on a link, a Google icon should appear in the address bar. The latter opens a side panel that allows you to find the results of your search without having to click on the back button. It is thus possible to switch to another site quickly if you do not find what you want on the one you visited first. It is also possible to open the other results in new tabs. A feature directly inspired by what Microsoft does with its Edge browser.

A browser in your browser

If Google presents this as a means of “Quickly compare search results without having to click the back button“, it is quite possible to use the side panel for further research. If you are planning to buy train tickets for your next vacation and want to take a look at the weather before, no need to open a new tab. By clicking on the little Google logo, you can start a search without ever having to leave the page you are on. To put it more simply, this new feature is a kind of mini- browser within your browser.

If you don’t want to use the feature, you can disable it by typing “chrome://flags” in the address bar and then searching for the “side search” entry. A drop-down menu will then offer you to deactivate the option.
