For its 15th anniversary, Google Chrome will soon get a more colorful and harmonious look. Interface changes which will also affect the Chrome Web Store.
After rounding the edges of YouTube, Google will do the same for Chrome. To celebrate the browser’s 15th anniversary this month, the firm has decided to harmonize its interface by exploiting its own visual language, Material You introduced with Android 12 in 2021.
Like smartphones running the latest versions of its OS, Google wants to allow you further customization of Chrome, with a color palette integrated into the interface, the settings and even its search engine. The icons have also changed slightly for a larger “ readability » according to the firm, as well as its menu which offers faster access to the password manager as well as extensions. The browser interface will also better take into account your system’s settings regarding night mode, for example.
The extensions store (Chrome Web Store for short) also benefits from a visual overhaul which also rounds out the corners with a less busy interface and clearer categorization. The site welcomes a new category for the occasion: extensions optimized by AI. A preview of the new store has been available for a week via the address chromewebstore.google.com.
Finally, Google announced significant changes to the security of its browser, promising protection against phishing in real time while until now it was difficult to follow: “ Phishing domains have become increasingly sophisticated and today 60% of them exist for less than ten minutes, making them difficult to block. »
This new version of Chrome is expected in the coming weeks on all platforms.
