Google continues to refine its web browser Chromium. And today, the undisputed leader in web surfing is further optimizing its Safe Browsing.
To deal with the increase in computer threats, Google is integrating new real-time URL protection into Safe Browsing. This of course while preserving the confidentiality of Internet users who use Chrome on a desktop computer, but also on iPhone.
New real-time threat detection for Safe Browsing
Without us realizing it, the Safe Browsing function already protects more than 5 billion devices around the world against phishing, malware, unwanted software, etc.
Launched in 2005, Safe Browsing now evaluates more than 10 billion URLs and files every day. According to Google, more than 3 million warnings are displayed to users in the event of potential threats.
Towards 25% more attacks blocked
Operationally, Safe Browsing is based on a list stored on the American giant’s servers, to check if a site or file is potentially dangerous. “ This list is updated every 30 to 60 minutes, but we have found that the average time a malicious site exists is less than 10 minutes », Explains Google.
Also, the new Safe Browsing update will make it possible to check visited sites in real time. If a site is likely to pose a risk to the user (or their computer/iPhone), a warning will be displayed on the screen.
In doing so, with this analysis now in real time, Google estimates it can block 25% additional phishing attempts. And even though this optimization involves some additional power on the part of the browser, Google promises that the browsing experience will remain fluid and fast.
Already available on desktop versions and on iOS, the Safe Browsing update will be available on Android by the end of March.
