A new customization option is appearing in Canary, the developer version of Google Chrome, which allows you to know in advance certain features of Google’s web browser. It is similar to what Material You allows on Android smartphones.
Chrome theme changes color according to your background
As reported 9to5Google, a Reddit user by the name of Leopeva64 who spotted a new feature on Chrome Canary, the alpha version of Google’s browser, aimed at developers. titled ” Customizing Chrome’s Color Extraction » («Customize Chrome Color Extraction“), she “allows to set the theme color according to the background image when it is changed in the new tab page of Chrome“.
This new customization setting currently only works with built-in wallpapers in Google Chrome. Impossible for the moment to adapt the colors of the theme of the browser to images coming from his computer. For the moment, if we can indeed modify the color of the browser theme, but only from a limited choice of colors.
It’s not Material You, but it’s close
If nothing indicates that this is the case, we can bring this feature closer to Material You, which we know on Android. Appeared with Android 12, it makes it possible to automatically adapt the colors of the system interface according to the wallpaper. A customization option that can be used with Google applications, such as Google Photos, Google Maps or Google Messages.
The Android version of Chrome is also compatible with Material You: Google seems to want to tackle the version for computers (PC, Mac and Chromebook).
