Pixel users have been facing a particularly annoying bug for several weeks: their smartphone crashes repeatedly. It seems that the problem appeared with Android 14, especially on devices where several profiles are configured. Google assures that a solution will arrive soon.
The deployment of a new version of Android is always a moment of celebration for users loyal to the ecosystem. But, systematically, some are left behind because of a bug that ruins everything. Android 14 is no exception and, with the Pixels having received the update first, its users were also the first to experience the most crippling bug of the moment on the OS. For several days now, many have been complaining that their smartphone has become a brick.
It seems that Pixel 6 owners were the main ones affected when the problem was spotted. But since then, it has visibly spread to the rest of the series, notably on the Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold. Affected users simply can no longer access the content of their smartphone, since it repeatedly crashes. After some research, it was highlighted that the problem is linked to the presence of several profiles on the affected device.

How to prevent your Google from turning into a brick
The problem seems to vary in severity, with some still managing to unlock their smartphone while others can’t even get past the start screen. We therefore had to wait several days for Google to confirm the existence of this very important bug. On its support forum, the firm also emphasizes the fact that only users with several profiles are concerned.
“Depending on the device, this issue may result in the primary user being unable to access storage. It may also cause the device to restart with a “factory data reset” message. If this message is accepted, data that has not been backed up may be lost, and if refused, the device will reboot repeatedly,” explains the manufacturer.
The latter then specifies that his teams are already working on a solution, but that no definitive one has yet been found. For now, the firm advises simply updating your smartphone to hopefully get rid of the problem. Unfortunately, this technique only works if you manage to update your smartphone. If this is your case, here’s how to install the latest update:
- Open Settings on your smartphone
- Go to System then System Update.
- If an update is available, your Pixel will ask you to download it
- Follow the on-screen instructions
Additionally, Google advises not to create secondary profiles until the issue is fully resolved. It may indeed be that the latest update does not allow you to get rid of the bug. Unfortunately, if this is your case, there isn’t much more you can do at the moment. The same goes for smartphones that cannot unlock. For now, the only thing to do is to wait for Google to deploy an effective fix.
