Google has published its annual review. Although the corona pandemic dominated, many other events were also in trend.

Like so many other reviews, Google's annual review is dominated by a topic that has been moving the world for months – the corona pandemic. In addition to questions about the virus itself, the symptoms or the corona warning app, there were also other topics that affected German users. The Google list does not generally include the most search queries, but rather shows the greatest increase in search interest compared to the previous year.

Corona, weather and iPhone

Both worldwide and in Germany, "Coronavirus" is one of the most popular search terms, as expected. This is followed in this order by the US election, tomorrow's weather, economic issues such as Wirecard and the Biontech share, basketball megastar Kobe Bryant (1978-2020) who died in January, the new iPhone 12, the streaming service Disney + that was launched recently published PlayStation 5 and the elected US President Joe Biden (78).

In connection with the pandemic, the search queries "Coronavirus", "Corona Germany", "Corona aktuell", the Robert Koch Institute with "RKI", "Coronavirus tips", "Corona symptoms", "Coronavirus NRW", "Coronavirus Berlin "," Corona App "and" Corona Italy "at the top. The virus also dominates the headlines. This is followed by the US election, the Wirecard scandal, the attack in Hanau, the Lufthansa share, the hurricane Sabine, short-time work benefits, the explosion disaster in Beirut, the terrorist attack in Vienna and the DAX price.

The three most frequently asked where, when and why questions were: "Where is the hurricane now?", "Where will school fail tomorrow?", "Where can I get mouthguards?", "When do schools open again? "When do hairdressers open again?", "When do gyms open again?", "Why were Kellogg's cornflakes invented?", "Why do so many in Italy die of Corona?" and "Why was George Floyd arrested?".

A 20-year-old is particularly trendy

Among the personalities with the strongest increase in search queries, Joe Biden is right at the front, closely followed by Boris Johnson, 56, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. North Korea's head of state Kim Jong-un (36) lands behind. With Laura Müller (20), the wife of pop singer Michael Wendler (48), the first German personality lands in fourth place. Directly behind are Wendler, Biden's Vice President Kamala Harris (56), chef Attila Hildmann (39), who attracted attention with conspiracy theories, TV starlets and "celebrities under palm trees" star Claudia Obert (59), Sonja Kirchberger (56 ) and the outgoing First Lady Melania Trump (50). The still incumbent US President Donald Trump (74) is not in the top ten at all, as he was already increasingly sought after.

German users were most touched by the death of Kobe Bryant, who died in a tragic accident, the cult comedian Karl Dall (1941-2020) who only died at the end of November, the death of George Floyd (1973-2020), the countless protests in the frame the "Black Lives Matter" movement and the actress Naya Rivera (1987-2020) who was killed in a boat accident. In addition, the farewells to acting legend Sean Connery (1930-2020), football idol Diego Maradona (1960-2020), star hairdresser Udo Walz (1944-2020), "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020), Bundestag Vice President Thomas Oppermann (1954-2020) and Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas (1916-2020) very moving for many people.

"Babylon Berlin", a German production, is in first place among the most trendy TV series of the year. This is followed by the Netflix show "The Witcher" with Henry Cavill (37), the German-Luxembourgish production "Bad Banks", the fifth season of "Haus des Geldes" and the documentary series "Tiger King" (in Germany "Big cats and their Predators "). The top ten make up "Our Wonderful Years", "Emily in Paris", "The Umbrella Academy", "Elite" and "The Prodigal Daughter".
