Google has started rolling out a welcome simple update to make sharing files on Google Workspace a little easier.

You should soon see this new feature on your Google accounts, both personal and professional.

An obvious update for Google Workspace

Since June 20, Google is gradually rolling out an update to all Google Workspace users. Within 15 days maximum, everyone should have a richer file sharing experience on Docs, Sheets, Slides or PDFs.

Until now, when a user requested access to a file, its owner received an e-mail with the choice to accept (with the possibility of viewing, commenting or editing the file) or to refuse. Not very practical when you are in a hurry and an owner does not always have his nose in his e-mails. Now, a blue dot notification will appear directly on the Share button at the top right of an owner’s interface when requesting a share.

After clicking on this button, the sharing pop-up window still opens, but enriched with a banner at the top in order to accept or not the pending sharing(s). The e-mail system remains in place, while a “Notify” box allows you to send or not an e-mail to the person who set up the sharing request.

Google improves its tools

If it sometimes takes (a lot) its time, Google seems in any case to listen to feedback from its users. Google Workspace also benefited a few days ago from small additional improvements. It was about more granular views on Google Slides with new zoom settings, the rollout of Google Drive’s event log to more editions of Google Workspace, the arrival of Google Classroom reports in Microsoft Word files , and the introduction of rich text formatting in Google Classroom.

In addition to Workspace, it was not long ago that Google Meet took advantage of an update to its Picture-in-Picture mode.

Google Workspace has more management and productivity apps to help businesses, from the smallest to the largest. Complete and well thought out, this office suite would have everything to gain from offering a software version to overshadow Microsoft 365.
