It will soon no longer be possible to get a reminder when you go home to take out the trash.

Google has just cleaned up the features associated with reminders and removed two tools in one go.

Geo-located reminders suddenly disappear, without any real solution

It will therefore soon no longer be possible to create geo-located reminders from the voice assistant Google Assistant. These could use the position of the user to display according to a defined location. For example, it was possible to display a shopping list once you arrived at your favorite supermarket or to obtain a list of your tasks to do once you arrived at the office.

Google warned its users via a notification that this possibility, however very practical in everyday life, was going to stop. The firm gives no explanation but refers to the creation of routines to replace geo-location. We admit that we do not fully understand the logic behind this much more rigid suggestion.

Sharing reminders also removed

Google will also remove the ability to share reminders with other users. Obviously, this functionality seems unknown and impractical to implement. The recipients of these reminders must be integrated into a Google family group or share the same Google Assistant device, such as a Google Nest Audio connected speaker for example.

Google now offers several ways to create reminders, both in Google Calendar or through the Google Keep application, synchronized between different devices. However, the brand – like its many attempts to establish itself in the realm of instant messaging – does not seem to have a clear strategy with a single application between all services. Geo-located reminders could therefore have paid the price for this lack of unified vision, to the detriment of users.
