Google finally allows you to refuse all cookies in one click

Google has had its ears pulled and forced to make it easier to refuse all cookies on two of its flagship platforms.

Forced by the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (CNIL) and European regulators, Google finally offers an easier way for users to refuse all cookies on Google Search and YouTube with a single click.

The new interface now includes two buttons “accept everything » Where “ Refuse all highlighted in the same way. In the previous version, Google made it more difficult to access the option to refuse all cookies at once.

A third button More options allows you to individually choose which cookies you decide to accept and which ones you prefer to refuse. It replaces the ” Personalize » which hid these same options but also the button « Refuse all which was therefore not directly accessible.

Google indicates that the deployment of this change has begun in France and that it will continue soon in the member countries of the European Economic Area, which includes the European Union as well as Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. Switzerland and the United Kingdom are also affected.

Of course, Google does not make this change willingly, it was forced. At the start of the year, the CNIL fined Google 150 million euros for its practices relating to the cookie banner.

The company was rightly criticized for displaying a button to immediately accept cookies, but without offering an equivalent solution to refuse them so easily. However, the rule provides that a cookie must be as easy to refuse as it is to accept. This will now be the case with the new interface.

Google indicates that it worked with the CNIL for the development of this redesign. But the competent authorities in other countries including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom had also tapped the fingers of the American group.
