Google Home is finally available on the web to facilitate access to Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell

This is an announcement that had escaped us. Since the end of October, Google has made it possible to find Nest cameras and doorbells configured in the Google Home application from a browser, and therefore a computer or even a connected television. A novelty that is not really one for users who have known the Nest application, since it was accompanied by a web client. However, this was not the case with the Google application to which these same users were gradually pushed to migrate following the 2014 takeover, before it finally became mandatory for new ones. Nest products launched since last year only work with Google Home.

Live access and some commands

The arrival of this web client is therefore above all good news for new Nest users, even if it can also motivate old ones to migrate. Everyone can benefit from it. The list of compatible cameras thus includes the Nest Cam (battery), Nest Cam (wired), Nest Cam with Floodlight, but also the Nest Cam Indoor, Nest Cam Outdoor and the Nest Cam IQ. On the doorbell side, we find the first Nest Doorbell in addition to the Nest Doorbell (battery), not to mention the very recent Nest Doorbell (2nd gen).

Owners of one or more of these references can therefore now access them from any browser, at home.google.com by logging in with the Google account associated with the Google Home application. From this page, it is more precisely possible to access the live images of the cameras, but also to activate/deactivate them and to wake up the battery models. Recordings and detection settings are not mentioned for the moment, but it is not impossible that they will be added later. Google specifies in any case that this web client is currently offered as a preview. It could therefore still evolve, but this also means that small malfunctions could occur.
