Google Search

The giant Google saw its annual results increase by 41% in 2021, thanks to its search engine
and the resulting advertising revenue.

It’s not the first time we’ve said it, but the pandemic and the health crisis are undoubtedly benefiting the digital giants, which have been generating record revenues for two years. The latest to have unveiled its quarterly and annual results, Alphabet, parent company of Google, recorded a turnover of 257.6 billion dollars in 2021 (i.e. 228.3 billion euros), an increase of 41% compared to the previous year. Huge.

A record quarter and year for Google

Google (which makes up most of Alphabet’s revenue) has never made so much money. The Mountain View firm experienced very strong revenue growth in 2021. For example, it has annual revenue twice that of 2018 ($136.8 billion), just three years earlier. The previous year, Alphabet’s revenue grew only 13% from 2019.

The latest quarterly report is also pretty good in its genre. From $56.9 billion in 2020, Q4 2021 revenue reached $75.3 billion, up 32% year-on-year.

Regarding the profits, they are in line with the turnover. We thus go from 15.2 to 20.6 billion dollars in the fourth quarter of 2021, and from 40.2 to 76 billion dollars (+ 86% over one year!) for the whole year. Alphabet posts a fourth consecutive quarter of record profits, and has increased its cash position, now at $140 billion.

Google search engine and advertising account for more than 90% of Alphabet Group’s revenue

The fourth quarter saw continued strong growth in our advertising business, which has helped millions of businesses thrive and find new customers “. The words are from Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, and they obviously translate the data from the firm’s latest balance sheet.

Search engine Google saw revenue grow 35.7% year-on-year, with fourth-quarter revenue of $43.3 billion, more than half of the company’s gains in the period . YouTube also continues to grow (+25.4%, $8.6 billion in Q4). These two revenue chunks are grouped under the advertising revenue line, which in total earned Alphabet $61.2 billion last quarter (up 32.5%). Google services as a whole thus account for 92.1% of Alphabet’s total revenues.

The Californian firm and its boss also show other satisfactions, such as the Google Cloud division, which saw its turnover increase by 22.3% in the last quarter, to 8.2 billion dollars. Sundar Pichai evokes well “ quarterly sales record for Pixel phones, without quantifying the latter.
