After the classic emojis, which “brighten up” our text conversations, Google presents audio emojis. These aim to make our phone calls more fun than ever.

Essential to any textual exchange worthy of the name for several years, emojis have invaded our SMS, our WhatsApp exchanges, our emails, our social networks… on the Google side, we decided to take the concept a step further, by making emojis compatible with… phone calls.

When emojis (also) give voice

Indeed, through an update of the Phone application, Android smartphones could soon welcome “Audio Emoji”. These will allow us to trigger sounds during our telephone conversations.

How ? By simply touching one of the compatible emojis displayed on the screen. In all likelihood, the user will only have to press a button to activate one of the available sound effects.

“Audio Emoji” in a future update of the Phone application?

Currently, there are six of these new Audio Emojis that the team 9to5Google managed to unlock. We should soon be able to activate applause during our conversations, but also laughter, a celebration, a sound evoking sadness, another acting as a drum roll, and finally… a fart.

Indeed, the essential “poop” emoji will also be there, and should make it possible to trigger the sweet sound of flatulence during a conversation. Perfect in particular for Tesla owners, who can already make their vehicle explode remotely.

However, there is no need to fiddle with your smartphone right now, looking for these “Audio Emoji”. Indeed, the functionality is currently being tested, and could soon arrive on compatible Android smartphones. Also, it is not impossible that the test is not conclusive, and that these Audio Emoji will ultimately never see the light of day.
