The American giant is carrying out major maneuvers before its annual conference. And they concern both the devices it markets and artificial intelligence.
The annual two-day Google I/O developer conference takes place in just under a month, on May 14. And in view of this great mass for the Californian group, management is busy and putting in place new directions. We thus learn that several of its divisions have been merged, in order to improve work efficiency.
Birth of a new division
Google boss Sundar Pichai posted important news on the Google blog this week. We learn that its Android and hardware divisions are grouped into a single entity. The latter takes the name “Platforms and Devices”, or in French “platforms and devices”. »
This new major division will be led by Rick Osterloh, previously head of Google’s devices section. Google Research employees who also work in the “ computational photography and on-device intelligence » will also be integrated into it. The division will take care of all Pixel, Chrome, ChromeOS, Android and Photos products.
Google is AI, AI and AI today
But that’s not the only significant change happening. With Gemini already in the bag, Google wants to further accelerate the movement in artificial intelligence. Thus, the research teams who worked on AI models outside DeepMind will join the ranks of this subsidiary, which has been working in the sector for around fifteen years.
“ All of this work will now be brought together within Google DeepMind and will increase our ability to deliver powerful AI to our users, partners and customers. This will simplify development by concentrating computationally intensive model building in one place » was explained. What to prepare for great announcements next May?

- A powerful generation model
- A knowledge base updated in real time
- Free and integrated into the Google ecosystem
Google Gemini is an AI chatbot intrinsically connected to the web from which it draws the majority of its knowledge. The main advantage of the service is that it is completely free and offers image recognition. The gradual integration into the Google ecosystem should make it a most capable chatbot for a variety of tasks.
