the world’s most famous, Google, is no longer the king of the industry. His place on the throne of the most visited sites was stolen from him by TikTok
.

It’s a small earthquake in the world of new technologies. According to the latest annual barometer of the most visited domains, sites, social networks and e-commerce giants established by content and services distributor Cloudflare, Google lost its place as the # 1 site in 2021, to the benefit of acclaimed TikTok to excess by young people (but not only) around the world.

TikTok, always further, always higher, always stronger

After having occupied the first place of the most visited sites in 2020 thanks to its myriad of services (Maps, Photo, News, Translation, Flights, Books and others), Google surely thought it could quietly maintain the best position in 2021. It was without counting on the insane growth of TikTok (more than a billion monthly active users, 3 billion downloads), which of the 7e place last year, went to the premiere.

It was from March, explains Cloudflare, that TikTok topped the ranking of the most visited sites, sporadically at the time. And since August 10, 2021, the social network for sharing short videos has trusted first place almost every day, the end of November being the exception, Black Friday obliges.

TikTok’s strong comeback pushes Facebook down to third place. The top 10 is then completed by Microsoft (fourth, which loses one place compared to 2020), Apple (-1), Amazon (which does not move), Netflix (-2), YouTube (which does not move either) , Twitter (+1) and WhatsApp, which throws Instagram off the top.

Note that this ranking takes into account the services of these companies, that is to say the Apple Store and Apple TV + for the firm at Apple, and Office 365 and Teams for Microsoft.

YouTube, leader for a day

If YouTube is far from the podium, Google’s video platform will have had its heyday in 2021, taking first place on Cloudflare’s list on February 2, 2021. The site was taken by storm due to rich news , marked by the coup d’état in Myanmar the day before, the Super Bowl or the announcement of the resignation of Jeff Bezos from his post as CEO of Amazon.

Regarding social networks, TikTok is obviously ahead of Facebook and generates the most traffic, even if Mark Zuckerberg’s social network remains the leader in terms of number of users, for the moment. Behind, we find YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Quora. Note here the improvement of Twitter, which again exceeds Instagram.

As in 2020, Netflix is the most visited video streaming platform in 2021, ahead of YouTube and Roku. HBOMax (4e) and Hulu (5e) have swapped places, while Disney + climbs from 8e at the 7e position. Here, Prime Video is not taken into account, since the service goes through the domain amazon.com.

Finally, since we are talking about it, Amazon still dominates the ranking of the most visited e-commerce sites in 2021, ahead of Taobao, eBay, Walmart, and the Chinese JD.com, which steals the fifth place from Shopify.
