Google is preparing a feature that will make the Play Store much more useful for discovering applications

Google is concocting a new feature for the Play Store that will allow you to think outside the box when choosing mobile applications for Android.

THE Play store is the main way to obtain Android applications, but we must admit that the online store does not encourage exploration. Updates for the most used applications are most often done automatically, and no one likes having to scroll for hours to find out what an application looks like. It’s a shame for the millions of application developers who will never have the chance to be as well exposed as star applications such as WhatsApp and Facebook.

Google decided to improve this situation thanks to a new discovery feature application and a more accessible widget. On its site, AssembleDebug, a leaker expert in Google products, reveals to us the existence of a new functionality hidden in the source code of the Play Store including the current name would be “Cube”. It has apparently been under study since the beginning of 2023. One update after another, the leaker was able to observe the evolution of these Cubes, without ever being able to understand its exact functioning.

Google will integrate a new recommendations feature into the Play Store

The appearance of a Cubes widget revives speculation about this new recommendation tool in the Play Store. The flags that can be activated in the settings suggest that it will be possible to list applications according to various categories such as “Food”, “Games”, “Listening”, “Read”, “Shopping”, “Social » or even “Watch”. AssembleDebug assumes “that each category will show apps and content recommended for each of them” and that Cubes could get its own tab in the Play Store.

We can also expect the Play Store to remind us to open or delete unused apps “for x days”. For example, “If you haven’t opened an app in four days, you will receive a notification. If you ignore it, it will show up again in 5 or 6 days.” After two messages without action on your part, the Play Store will stop harassing you. A very handy for cleaning on your smartphone.
