A Pixel 9 Pro XL is expected to launch alongside the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. The screen size is said to be larger than 6.7 inches.
Google has just announced its Pixel 8a, but the Pixel 9 series expected this fall is already in an advanced stage of development. And for the first time, three models should be marketed.
New from Google: a compact premium smartphone
The information comes from accessories maker Thinborne, which lists protective cases for three different Pixel 9 models, as spotted by Android Central. In addition to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, we would also have a Pixel 9 Pro XL, thus confirming previous rumors already suggesting such a device.
The idea of an even more high-end Pixel Ultra has been circulating among leakers for some time. Please note, this is not such a device. The Pixel 9 Pro XL would a priori only be the successor to the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro would be the true new device, offering the compact size of the Pixel 9 with the technical specifications of the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
So we can compare the Pixel 9 Pro to the iPhone Pro. Previously, to have the best characteristics, especially in photography, you had to opt for a large format model, this will no longer be the case.
The biggest Pixel smartphone ever launched?
From what we see of the cases, Google would make the edges of the Pixel 9 even flatter than those of the Pixel 8. The rounded corners should, however, remain as they are. The Pixel 9 Pro XL’s screen would be larger than that of the Pixel 8 Pro, which already measured 6.7 inches.
The Pixel 9 series will be equipped with a new Tensor G4 chip, which should provide a boost in performance and AI capabilities, as well as better controlled energy consumption.
A first teaser of the Pixel 9 could be revealed during the Google I/O conference on May 14. Otherwise, we will probably have to wait until October 2024 to obtain official information.
