Stadia will shut down next year, and Google is already laying the groundwork in an effort to refund its users. A difficult task that will inevitably take time…

But the American firm has already launched a first wave of payments for its users.

A cacophonous closure

When Google announced the closure of Stadia last September, gamers had every right to wonder what would happen to their purchases. In the end, the multinational will make refunds for all games and additional content purchased. Some subscriptions are also affected. Only subscriptions switched to the Stadia Pro plan will not be refunded by Google.

Additionally, players will also lose their saves on games launched through Stadia. Again, developers have massively mobilized to allow the transfer of a game’s progress to other platforms. Ubisoft, Bethesda, Bungie or even CD Projekt RED are working on a solution to this thorny problem.

Monitor your bank accounts

Thus, Google announces that the first refunds will be issued this week. The procedure is managed automatically and the company encourages users not to contact customer service. All payments (or almost) should be made before the shutdown of the servers scheduled for January 18, 2023.

Google will send an email when a refund cannot be completed via the payment method linked to an account. Also, if someone has deleted their account, they will need to contact support on their own. Note in passing that below 20 transactions made on Stadia, the user will receive a different email for each item purchased. Beyond this figure, a single email summarizing all the products and services reimbursed will be sent.

In short, keep an eye on your inbox regularly until January.
