Google has surprisingly announced many innovations for Android. Instead of having to wait for a new Android upgrade like Android 13, most of the new functions are implemented on an app basis and can therefore also be used by people who have an older smartphone.

Android users can rejoice. Google has announced many innovations for the company’s apps that bring exciting improvements (Source: Google).

  • Depth of field for photos: If you own a Pixel smartphone or have a Google One membership, you can no longer only perform the function of adding a depth of field to photos on people, but soon on animals, meals, plants and other objects. The effect can also be used if you want to decorate very old photos with it.
  • Live transcription: Google and Samsung smartphones come with live transcription. You can have spoken words typed out with it. Currently this only works if you have an internet connection. That will change soon. Then you can use the live transcription even if you don’t have access to the internet.
  • Grammar check: Nothing is more annoying than a typo in an important message. Gboard’s spelling correction already works very reliably and now the Google keyboard also gets a grammar checker. If you wrote something wrong, you will be given a suggestion for improvement.
  • GoogleTV: Google TV now uses Highlights to suggest content that might suit you.
  • parking fees: At least in the US, you can easily pay for parking in 400 cities using the Google Assistant.
  • screen time: Google integrates a new widget, which should bring you closer to the screen time. This is to prevent excessive use of the smartphone.
  • Nearby share: So far, you can only share content with one person with Nearby Share. Google is changing that now. You can share photos, videos, documents, and other content with multiple people at the same time when they are nearby. The minimum requirement for this is Android 6.0 or newer.
  • messages: Google’s Messages app is getting a lot of new features. It even bridges the gap to iPhone users so that reactions from iPhones appear as emojis in Messages. You will also be reminded of birthdays. The following video goes into this in detail.

Lots of new features via app updates

Most new features will be distributed via app updates if you use the relevant app. Nearby Share will be integrated into your Android version over time.
