The latest version of Google’s Android application includes a slight modification to the interface. However, we are willing to bet that this one will seem very strange to you at first glance. Indeed, the search bar is now at the very bottom of the screen, certainly to adapt to increasingly larger smartphones.
One might believe that Google is content to remain at the top of the search engines, without trying to renew itself. However, the latter continues to integrate new features or make some modifications to stay up to date. Recently, a page dedicated to notifications appeared within the Android application. It is also this version which is currently hosting another test from the Mountain View firm.
We’re willing to bet you’ll find this one strange. As reported by TheSpAndroid blog, version 14.48.26.29. arm64 from Google Search on Android is entitled to a disturbing new interface. More specifically, the search bar is no longer in the middle of the screen as usual. Instead, it has been moved to the bottom of the screen, as you can see in the image above.
Google moves its search bar to the bottom of the screen
When opening the application, the user is greeted by a blank screen, except for this search bar now anchored at the bottom of the screen. While there is reason to be taken aback at first, this change quickly proves practical for anyone who owns a smartphone with a large screen. In fact, the search bar is then much easier to access, which avoids getting tendinitis when you ask the engine a question.

For now, this new feature is only available to users with access to the beta of the Google application. It is therefore still too early to know whether it will be offered to the general public. Note, however, that on iPhone, Google Chrome already allows you to position the address bar at the bottom of the screenwhich shows that the Mountain View firm is determined to give users more control over the interface of its applications.
