Google has released a new version of its Chrome web browser compatible with Arm-based Windows PCs equipped with Snapdragon processors. Fully optimized for the new hardware and operating system, navigation should be faster and smoother.
“The new version of Google Chrome will help consolidate the role of Snapdragon X Elite as the leading platform for Windows computing from mid-2024,” said Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm.
Snapdragon X Elite
We must not forget that the Snapdragon X Elite processor will not be released until mid-2024. To buy a Windows PC equipped with Snapdragon X Elite, there will be two options starting in May: Microsoft’s Surface 6 and Surface Pro 10. If these two PCs are designed for professionals, they should both be available in a consumer version later.
In terms of technical characteristics, the new Qualcomm processor, designed for AI, will be equipped with 12 Oryon cores. This should allow it to offer “up to twice the CPU performance” of its 13 competitors.e generation of Intel, Core i7-1360P and Core i7-1355U.
The Snapdragon X Elite will also consume around 68% less power. Energy savings which should result in a considerable improvement in battery life.
AI in your browser
The new Arm version of Chrome also includes the Help Me Write feature. This writing assistant powered by Google’s generative AI can be useful for getting started with writing an article as well as for refining an existing text.
Users of this new version of Chrome will also have access to thousands of browser extensions and themes.
There are currently few Arm-based Windows devices available. However, with this announcement, Google is betting that this number will increase in the years to come. The Arm version of Chrome will be available this week, the company said.
