Google Messages continues its redesign. Several features could soon see the light of day within the application, further improving the user experience of the instant messaging.

Thanks to the adoption of the RCS protocol, which now equips more than 1 billion devices around the world, the default messages application on Android smartphones is reborn from its ashes. Many practical and fun tools are gradually being integrated into it.

By analyzing lines of code in the latest beta version of Google Messages, the renowned blog TheSpAndroid for example revealed that a new message editing feature would soon be available. He also got his hands on other new features, which should bring the application even closer to its rivals WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram.

Small innovations to plan

Google is reportedly considering integrating a button to enable and disable camera effects. “ I’m not sure what kind of camera effects the Messages team is working on, but I can expect them to appear in future betas », writes the editor of the blog.

Typically, Google Messages displays recent contacts you’re currently chatting with when you use the search bar. A function that could disappear soon depending on the APK of the application. Likewise, it is likely that the Mountain View firm will remove the preview of draft messages on the home page.

Finally, it should soon be possible to choose not to provide usage and diagnostic information, which is specifically collected from the Google account with which you sign in to Google Messages. Note that if all these features appear in the beta, it is not certain that the company applies them as a whole to the stable version of its application.

Google refines its application

If they seem minimal, these new features help to optimize the experience on the application, which has long failed compared to messaging services like WhatsApp or iMessage. Google seems determined to catch up and is constantly improving Messages.

At the end of last year, for example, it introduced end-to-end encryption, in addition to allowing the sharing of Ultra HDR photos.
