This is a feature that is poised to become standard. After iMessage and WhatsApp, Google is working on modifying messages after sending. Indeed, several lines of code found within the latest beta of the application seem to indicate that the Mountain View firm is preparing to test this function. We do not yet know when it will be deployed.
For messaging users such as Discord, the ability to edit a message after sending makes sense. But this is not the case for all applications, which are now trying to catch up. Last year, iMessage acquired this functionality with the arrival of iOS 16, while WhatsApp joined the band at the beginning of 2023. It was therefore high time for Google to react.
It is now done, with several lines of code found within the latest beta of Google Messages which leave little room for doubt. Currently, the feature is not yet available, even in beta. But it is certain that the application will soon allow you to modify your messages after sending.

- bugle.enable_edit_ui : activates the message modification interface
- bugle.load _edit_history : loads message modification history
- bugle.process_outgoing_edits: displays changes made to a message
- bugle.process_incoming_edits: processes changes at the recipient

Note that these applications of the lines of code are still at the guesswork stage, since the functionality has not yet been deployed. However, these are based on the existing operation within competing messaging services already offering this option. We do not yet know if the edition duration will be limited like on WhatsApp, nor if Google plans a deployment in the coming weeks.
It’s good to see email developers inspiring each other, especially when it comes to a feature as practical as editing. Each application has its own advantages and each addition will necessarily benefit users who have had to make concessions when choosing their messaging.
