Google One rolls out its free VPN to Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

Google One does not necessarily offer the best VPN on the marketbut this one has the merit of being accessible free of charge to owners of a mobile from the Pixel 7 series.

At the launch of its Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, Google promised that its smartphones would quickly and at no additional cost benefit from a new feature: access to its own VPN tool, normally available to Google One subscribers of the 2 TB package. cloud storage (most expensive).

Google then indicated that its VPN would be enabled on devices through the monthly update for Pixel phones scheduled for December. This hasn’t rolled out to users yet, but it looks like the VPN option is already available on some Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro models.

To check if this is your case, just go to the Google One application. If you are greeted with a message stating that ” your Pixel comes with VPN by Google One », then you can go to the options of the app to configure the VPN.

It is also possible to go to Settings > Network and Internet > VPN to configure it, activate it or deactivate it. Finally, users can create a shortcut in the quick settings of the smartphone to access this option more quickly.

A VPN with basic functions

Remember that the Google One VPN remains very basic in its operation. It allows you to hide your IP address, reduce your traces left online, improve the security of connection to a public Wi-Fi network and browse the Internet more privately, through a browser or an application.

The Mountain View firm specifies that it “ will never use your VPN connection to track, collect or sell your online activity which suggests that Google One VPN protects even… from Google itself.

However, there is no feature that allows you to choose the server to which you can connect or a specific geographical location. This VPN cannot therefore be used to access content blocked in your country.
