A change spotted in the latest beta version of Google Photos suggests that it will soon be possible to act on a currently non-modifiable parameter to free up storage space more quickly.

Discovered by PiunikaWeb, a line of code present in the beta version of Google Photo numbered 6.79.0.624777117 shows how the Mountain View firm wants to give us more control over a particular parameter, until now fixed and impossible to change. Here too, the aim is clearly to save you storage faster. To do this, Google could let you configure how the basket.
Google Photos should allow us to make space faster than currently
As you know, deleting a file from Google Photos does not erase it completely. It is sent to the trash and will stay there until you empty it, or a certain amount of time passes. The latter is indicated: “saved items will be permanently deleted after 60 days in the trash. Unsaved items will be deleted after 30 days“. It is on this point that the application will allow you to act. The line of code says “Items in the trash are deleted after # day“, instead of “60 days” as is the case now.

This means that we could choose ourselves when files will be deleted from the recycle bin, effectively freeing up space. But to what extent? We don’t know yet. Rather than letting us manually enter a number of days, it is likely that Google will choose toimplement predefined durationsa bit like WhatsApp with the ephemeral messages : 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 60 days… Less permissive, but that’s it.
