While many owners of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are waiting for the December update, which should fix many problems with Google’s new Android smartphones, a feature is announced for next year that should make at least one of the two smartphones even better.
Google Pixel 6 Pro will receive facial recognition
Even before the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were officially presented, it was announced that at least the Pro model should be equipped with face recognition. That did not come true in the final performance. According to information that has now emerged in the code of Android 12L Google should probably work on the implementation again (source: 9to5Google).
Accordingly, a first version of face recognition in the beta version of Android 12L for the Pixel 6 Pro could be used as early as January 2022. Pixel 6 users could of course be disappointed, but even beforehand it was never mentioned that the cheaper model should receive this function. It is not known why this is the case. There is at least one small technical difference with the front camera. The Pixel 6 Pro does not have real 3D sensors either.
This is of course only a first clue for the face recognition of the Pixel 6 Pro, which Google could introduce with Android 12L. In the end, it might even come to nothing. After all, it was Function already planned for the market launch for the Pixel 6 Pro. It would be practical, because the fingerprint sensor in the new Pixel 6 phones is very weak, as we found in the test.

While Samsung has been distributing its December update for various Android smartphones since the end of November, Google has only just started rolling out the major software update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
