It takes a lot of courage to put the “Pro” label on the back of a smartphone. On the one hand, a lot is expected of the device on practically all fronts: the screen, the autonomy, the performance and the cameras in particular. Second, that “Pro” label, which usually comes with a high selling price, must offer something new and innovative.
A few days ago, Google introduced its latest ultra-high-end proposition: the Pixel 7 Pro. Along with it comes a host of hardware and software improvements, including a new Tensor G2 processor with the Titan M2 chip, 30x zoom via a 48MP telephoto lens, and an autofocus ultra-wide-angle lens that can capture the smallest details.
Naturally, if you’re in the market for a new smartphone and want the best, the Pixel 7 Pro is worth considering…as is Apple’s latest iPhone 14 Pro. To help you make your choice, here are the arguments that may convince you to lean towards one side more than the other.

…the eSIM is not for you
Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro, Google’s Pixel 7 Pro – no matter where you buy it – will come with a standard physical SIM card slot and also support eSIM. This means travelers won’t necessarily have to switch eSIM subscriptions while abroad, or cut connectivity altogether in countries that don’t support eSIM technology.
…you want to personalize your smartphone
Google has made it clear that Android 13 is all about personalization. The same cannot be said for iOS, which is overly simple, although Apple has become less strict about customization for some time. The Pixel 7 Pro has loads of settings that will allow you to customize the interface to your liking. This ranges from icons and wallpapers to accessibility features. The mobile also comes with a host of tools, such as the Magic Eraser which facilitates photo editing.
…you want to save a few hundred euros
There is no beating around the bush: the Pixel 7 Pro is sold at 899 euros where the iPhone 14 Pro starts at 1,329 euros. And if the price is not necessarily the best criterion of comparison, the Pixel 7 Pro will undoubtedly delight those who do not want to put more than 1,000 euros in a phone.

…you want a “Pro” phone that doesn’t look like a brick
I’m sure there’s a rule somewhere that says the best smartphones should have a screen diagonal of at least 6.7 inches. Fortunately, Apple is one of the few manufacturers to still offer a “Pro” device that does not take up as much space in the pocket as a scientific calculator. The iPhone 14 Pro with its 6.1-inch screen is compact and easy to use with one hand. It has the same photographic layout – front and back – as the Max version. Thus, no compromise to be made by choosing a more compact smartphone.
…you like symmetry
The iPhone is probably one of the best-designed phones of this year. From the symmetrical edges that surround the screen to the dynamic island that is both more beautiful and more practical than any notch, the iPhone 14 Pro concentrates all of Apple’s design know-how.
…you’re ready to sell your soul to Apple – or you already have
Once you’ve purchased an Apple product, it’s not always easy to get out of the ecosystem. But brand loyalty is justified. Apple continues to make good products that carry certain values and hold up well over time. There is also extensive compatibility with the rest of the brand’s ecosystem.
