In recent years, more and more new product series have been added to the Google Pixel universe. First the Google Pixel Watch, then the Pixel Tablet and finally in 2023 the first Google foldable, the Pixel Fold.
In the new year, we expect Google to launch a new edition of the foldable smartphone. But what innovations await us there? You can get an overview of all the current rumors here.
Name change possible
We’re currently calling Google’s next foldable the Pixel Fold 2, but there are rumors online that Google will position the phone as part of the Pixel 9 series and market it under the name Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
When will the Pixel Fold 2 be released?
Classically, Google has two dates per year when hardware products are released – the Google I/O conference in May or the #MadeByGoogle event, which usually takes place in October of each year. Since the device is still in a relatively early stage of development according to benchmark websites, we don’t expect it to be unveiled as early as May. A presentation in October 2024 and a sales start a few weeks later is therefore conceivable.
Which versions will the Pixel Fold 2 be available in and how expensive will it be?
We don’t yet know anything specific about the versions offered by Google. However, it is possible that, like the predecessor, there will again be two memory combinations – one with 16/256 GB and one with 16/512 GB. There is also no speculation about the price yet. A price increase of around 100 euros is conceivable, but not inevitable. We therefore assume a price between 1,900 and 2,000 euros for the cheapest variant.
The Pixel Fold 2 should have these innovations
Because it is so early, not much is known about the specific features that the Pixel Fold 2 could bring. But at least we know what it will look like: The leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka @OnLeaks on X), who has been very reliable in the past, recently published very detailed render images and 360-degree images on Shots of the new Pixel Fold 2.

Here we see the Pixel Fold 2 opened and closed. The most important findings from the render photo are probably the new, unusual camera design on the back as well as the increased display sizes – according to Hemmerstoffer, the outer display on the Pixel Fold 2 will be 6.4 to 6.6 inches, the display on the inside will be a full 7.9 to 8.1 inches tall. The device is therefore much larger overall, but at the same time slimmer and thinner. According to the leaker, it is only 5.27 mm thick when unfolded.
We also see a new sensor next to the under-display camera on the interior display in the render images. It is currently unknown what this will be used for. It should also be noted that the render images are by no means final and particularly small details could still be changed. However, Hemmerstoffer is considered reliable in the scene, so it can be assumed that the Pixel Fold 2 will look similar to the pictures.

However, there could be deviations in the display sizes mentioned; unlike OnLeaks, Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), states 6.29 inches for the external display and 8 inches for the internal display.
Beyond the leaked design, it is known that the new Pixel Fold 2 will probably come with Google’s latest processor – the Tensor G4. What innovations this processor will bring is still up in the air. However, a special focus on AI seems more than certain.
There will also probably be 16 instead of 12 gigabytes of RAM. The Pixel Fold 2 would be the first Google phone to ship with this much RAM. What is also certain is that the device will be delivered with Android 15 and will receive security updates for up to seven years – as is the case with the Pixel 8 series.
More smartphones expected for 2024/25
