Google is preparing to unveil its first foldable smartphone, and it may not look like its main competitor: the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Indeed, the Pixel Fold would rather adopt the more compact format of the Oppo Find N.
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of the Pixel Fold, Google’s first folding smartphone, for several months now. The American giant would have postponed the release of its smartphone after realizing that it was not able to compete with its main competitors, but now it looks like the launch of the device is imminent.
Indeed, the Google Pixel Fold, which we know for the moment under its code name “Pipit », Was recently spotted on the Geekbench 4 benchmark. It revealed that the smartphone was going to be powered by Google’s Tensor house chip, the same as the Pixel 6, and that it would come out with the new major update to the Android 12 operating system.
New Android 12L Beta Unveils Pixel Fold
Google recently rolled out the second beta of its new Android 12L operating system, the version specially adapted for tablets and foldable smartphones. The update notably adds an additional page when configuring your device which shows you how to insert a SIM card.
What is interesting is that the smartphone used as an example is a foldable smartphone with the Google logo, and the image would refer to the code name “Pipit”. The image therefore reveals for the first time the shape of the Pixel Fold, and the device seems much smaller than a Galaxy Z Fold 3 based on the size of the side buttons.
Indeed, the smartphone looks less tall than a Galaxy Z Fold 3, and its format is closer to that of Find N, OPPO’s first foldable smartphone. So we would get closer more 8.4: 9 ratio than Find N than 22.5: 18 rectangular ratio of Galaxy Z Fold 3.
According to the estimates of our colleagues at 9To5Google, the internal screen of the Google Pixel Fold could have a ratio of 7: 8, but we’ll probably have to wait a few more weeks to learn more about it.
