Google Podcasts is about to join the (very busy) cemetery of Google applications. Last year, the Mountain View firm announced the imminent end of its service, which was unable to cope with the behemoths in the sector as well as traditional streaming applications. A first step has just been taken in his killing. In the United States, it is no longer possible to access the application.
At startup, the user is greeted by a message that is ambiguous to say the least. “Google Podcasts says goodbye. After April 2, 2024, you will no longer be able to listen to Podcasts from Google Podcasts. In France, we still have the right to a little respite. In fact, the service will remain active until June 24after which it will suffer the same fate as across the Atlantic.

Consider migrating your podcasts to YouTube Music before it’s too late
However, Google is not completely abandoning the podcast market. In fact, the firm invites its users to migrate to YouTube Music, its music streaming application. By clicking on the button Export subscriptions, users will be able to find all their favorite shows on YouTube Music, alongside their favorite artists and their playlists. By this closure, Google is therefore probably seeking to standardize its services, rather than to disperse itself.
In France, this message does not yet appear on Google Podcasts. We tried logging into the app and we were able to listen to podcasts normally, without interruption. However, with the fateful date fast approaching, it should not be long before we are entitled to it. We therefore advise you to migrate your podcasts immediately, otherwise you will have the unpleasant surprise of no longer having access to them. If you use a music streaming application, the easiest thing to do is add your favorite shows.
