On October 4th, Google will unveil the Pixel 8 and Pixel Watch 2 at a Made by Google event. But first, the manufacturer gives us a first look. Google has uploaded a 50-second clip for both devices on YouTube, in which you can admire the cell phone and smartwatch from all sides.
Both the Pixel Watch 2 and the Pixel 8 (Pro) look very similar to their respective predecessors. But if you look closely, you will discover some small but subtle differences. We have summarized them for you. Let’s start with the Pixel Watch 2.
New terms on the back of the Pixel Watch 2
If you look closely, you will notice that Google already confirms some technical details about the watch in the clip. The back of the watch can be seen at the beginning of the clip and in second 11. The terms SpO2 and IP68 can be read here. Both were not found on the back of the Pixel Watch. Instead it said “Heart Rate Sensor” and “5 ATM Water Resistance”.
The SpO2 value reflects the oxygen content of your blood, which can be measured using the watch’s pulse sensor. For the Pixel Watch, Google only updated this feature later, so it may not have been on the case at the time. IP68 indicates the degree of protection of the housing against dust and water. That’s probably why Google changed the font. The value 5 ATM, on the other hand, only referred to the water pressure that the watch can withstand.
Pixel 8 Pro with additional sensor
With the Pixel 8, Google continues the design introduced with the Pixel 6. The new Google cell phone can apparently only be distinguished from its predecessors by the color, or can it?
If you look carefully, you will see an additional sensor next to the camera’s photo LED on the Pro model. According to rumors, this is supposed to be a temperature sensor. However, its exact function is not yet known.
