Google announces that it has signed an agreement with the Neighboring Press Rights (DVP) company.

It’s official, Google has just concluded an agreement with the French collective management organization (OGC) dedicated to the defense of the neighboring rights of publishers and press agencies. This comes after previous agreements, signed with the APIG (Alliance of the General Information Press), the SEPM (Union of Magazine Press Editors) and the famous Agence France-Presse.

More than 350 agreements with press publishers in France

In France, holders of related rights benefit from an exclusive right which gives them the possibility of authorizing or prohibiting the use and exploitation of their service, and of receiving remuneration for it. If authorization has not been given beforehand, the rights holder can thus contest the exploitation of a protected work.

As such, Google has entered into negotiations with thousands of press publishers around the world, the American giant having signed more than 2,600 agreements in Europe. “ Google is the only platform in France to have so many agreements covering the content of press publications beyond links and short excerpts, which we call Extended News Previews », Explains the American giant.

For Google, this is a major step forward, since DVP is the first collective management organization in France specializing in the management of the neighboring rights of publishers and press agencies. The company thus represents a very wide variety of publications, ranging from the national press to the local or specialized press.
