Google is reportedly experimenting with a new interface for its home page, with the inclusion of a Discover feed.

Google’s home page has always been a model of sobriety and minimalism. However, this could well change in the coming weeks, since the American giant is currently testing the integration of various tools on this same home page, starting with its Discover news feed. To this would be added various widgets, and too bad for the somewhat overloaded side of the whole thing.

Soon a Google home page with real Discover pieces?

It is visited every day by millions of Internet users, the Google home page could soon host Discover, but also various widgets such as the weather, sports results, the stock market… This is in fact what discovered MSPowerUserwith a much busier home page, giving a little air of Microsoft Bing to Google.

Remember that Discover is a personalized news and content feed, accessible in particular on Android, by swiping to the left of the home page or via Google Search.

To shape its feed, Google draws in particular on browsing history, various web searches, but also information gleaned from Maps, YouTube or the PlayStore, to offer a feed capable of captivating the user.

A simple experiment, for the moment

Google spokesperson Lara Levin confirmed the change in a statement to the magazine The Verge. However, she made a point of specifying that this is an experiment currently being carried out in certain regions, particularly in India.

This is not the first time that Google has tested new features on its home page, and we will undoubtedly have to wait a little longer before knowing whether this new experiment will prove convincing in the eyes of the American giant.

Remember that if the Google home page is very (very) consulted every day, and that it serves as a starting page for many Internet users, Google has been making it possible for a long time to do without the latter, by launching a search directly from the browser address bar.

For a long time, the monopolies held by the pioneers of web browsing have determined the surfing conditions and habits of Internet users. In 1994, Netscape captured 75% of the navigation market in just four months of existence and opened the way to the democratization of the web. A success as dazzling as it was short-lived, when Microsoft marketed Internet Explorer the following year before making it a native component of Windows 95 OSR 1 (OEM), then integrating it into the Windows shell in 1997.
