Cloud gaming is now an integrated practice among many players in the industry. The fact of “streaming” games from any device via the Internet and being able to play them at home is today a marketing argument of choice.
Either it’s about Xbox, Steam, PlayStation, NVIDIA or Nintendo, we no longer count the manufacturers who have entered this market in recent years. Among the initiators of this new way of enjoying our games, there is a player that we do not necessarily associate with this sector, Google.
If the concept had been on the table of many manufacturers for a long time, Stadia is one of the first platforms to inaugurate the principle for the general public. The release of this “machine-less console” takes effect in November 2019. But the project is actually seen more as a curiosity than as a serious alternative to the giants Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo.
Lack of history in the middle of the video game, the support of Google is struggling to find a clientele. He was paired with an internal Google development studio that will close in 2021 without releasing any titles. Paradoxically, the services launched subsequently by other actors, traditionally rooted in the industry, are experiencing clear success.

Cloud gaming is now making its way into the consumption habits of gamers, but it will be done without Stadia. The question remains open for another similar actor: Amazon Luna. The delivery giant’s service has only been available since March 2021 in the United States, with no release date announced for the rest of the world. Difficult to comment on its success for the moment.
The service will no longer be accessible from January 18, 2023. Holders of Stadia and games on the platform will be reimbursed through the Google and Stadia stores on the horizon of the closing date.
