The search engine is offering updates to its office applications and is preparing its big comeback on the Tablet.

Android is an excellent operating system for smartphones, but not necessarily for tablets.

Google wants to improve the Android interface for tablets

Developers as well as Google have had the unfortunate tendency to sometimes neglect slates, and very often users find themselves faced with applications that have not been optimized for 10-inch tablets and even larger.

Sometimes it’s the phone versions that show up in the center of the screen instead, leading to a poor user experience, when the software just isn’t available on the Google Play Store.

At Google I/O 2022, its annual event dedicated to developers, the web giant announced changes and improvements in the applications it offers on tablets. The first improvements are visible today.

Improvements in Google Docs apps while waiting for the Pixel Tablet

On its blog, Google announces the availability of new versions of Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides as well as Google Keep and Google Drive.

These updates are fully adapted to tablet screens and offer support for the drag and drop when you view two apps side by side on your screen. It is thus possible to pass a table into your text document on Google Docs with a simple drag and drop, or even import a file from your storage space.

In Google Drive, it is also now possible to open two instances of the application in order to move from one directory to another and thus facilitate the movement of its files.

Google also announced earlier this year Android 12L, a new version of its current system dedicated to tablets that will rearrange the various interfaces offered. Samsung, Lenovo and Microsoft will be the first partners to offer devices equipped with this version as well as updates for existing tablets.

Finally, in 2023 Google will offer the Pixel Tablet, its own touchscreen tablet. The manufacturer has shared a visual of the device, which will use the design codes of the Google Pixel smartphone range, but has not said anything else about its technical data sheet or the price at which it wishes to offer this new member. from the Pixel family to the general public.
