A new badge will gradually appear next to the VPN applications available on the Google Play Store. It certifies that the program is safe according to independent analysis.
Since last year, you may have noticed a line titled Independent security review on the page of an application of the Play store. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, it’s not very surprising. You have to look in the block under Data security, which is not necessarily what we read the most when downloading an app. Developers actually have the possibility of submitting their program to a independent assessment. It checks if the application meets various safety requirements.
This is not the first measure of its kind that Google implements. We know that the firm is deploying features to fight malware on the Play Store, for example. A necessity when even today, popular applications are installed while infected with malware. This time, it’s about clearly telling users if they can download this or that VPN without risk.

As they are generally supposed improve your security on Android, VPN applications must reassure about their abilities to do so. If desired, the company (or developer) behind a virtual private network system can request a analysis of its product by an independent company from Google. If the criteria studied are met, a badge appears just below the first block, as can be seen in the image on the right.
Several VPNs have already taken part in the game. Among them, NordVPN, Google One Or ExpressVPN. The link Learn more redirects you to a page on the site App Defense Alliance where all the VPNs that have been evaluated are grouped together. You can therefore consult the certification obtained. It details all the tests to which the application was subjected, among other things. For the moment, the badge does not appear on the French version of the Play Store, but it won’t be long.
