Despite switching to Material Design 3 on almost all of its apps, Google hasn’t touched its eponymous app. Some users have finally seen a new layout appear, and the result is attractive.
Google regularly changes the look of its applications by referring to a general design defined beforehand. The latest is the Material Design 3Or Material You. Some of the firm’s apps have integrated it quickly, such as the Workspace suite at the start of the year. The transition to the new interface has even been made mandatory for Gmail. Among them, however, there remained one that still and always resisted a graphic overhaul: the google appquite simply.

We sometimes forget, but it is present by default on all Android smartphones (except Huawei). Once opened, you can launch a search Or browse your Discover feed if you have it enabled. Surprisingly, the design of the app hasn’t changed for a long time. Google obviously wants to correct the situation by testing a new design in some users.

Clearly visible in the screenshots below, Google is adopting the cards system. Each search result is isolated in a block with rounded edges distinct from the others. By playing on the contrast with a slightly differently tinted background, each “box” can be clearly distinguished. The set makes the page clearer and the results more easily identifiable. Light and dark themes are supported, and for the latter too the readability is there.
As always with Google, it is very possible that this new design will never see the light of day, or that it be modified at various levels before being deployed to all users. But despite its apparent simplicity, we believe it manages to make navigation in the application more pleasant. It is therefore hoped that it will be widely adopted. Still in the testing phase, no date has yet been announced for a possible global update.
