Reserved until now for mobile devices, the vpn from Google arrives this week on other systems. Thus, users can use it on their PC or Mac.

However, you should not expect to benefit from a very complete VPN within the framework of this offer.

Google expands its functionality

In November 2020, the American firm launched its own VPN for iOS and Android mobiles. This tool is only accessible by subscribing to a Google One Premium 2 TB subscription at 9.99 euros per month. This is therefore one advantage among many others since the offer also includes a shareable cloud storage space or a support service from brand experts.

Anyway, the VPN in question was until very recently exclusively available on mobile devices. Today, the software becomes usable on Windows PCs and Macs. Among its main features, we find in particular the possibility of hiding the IP address of the user and the limitation of online trackers.

A limited VPN

Despite everything, it is important to specify that this “VPN” ignores essential functions on such software. For example, it does not allow bypassing geo-restrictions or even censorship. The IP address assigned at the time of connection is automatically located in the country where the user is located. In addition, the VPN will only work within the 22 countries (including France) covered.

In short, we are far from the complete and efficient offers offered by CyberGhost, NordVPN or ExpressVPN. Only your online privacy will be assured. It remains to be seen whether Google will improve its software in the coming months.
