Google’s payments app becomes even more useful with its new update. On the menu: direct import of new ticket types from Gmail.

It has now been two years since Google Wallet was brought back to the forefront by the American giant, after a few years of absence which left some Android users without mobile payment services.

Since then, the application has continued to grow in strength and is clearly no longer content with hosting your bank cards. After all, a wallet is designed to hold a lot of things.

No need to go get your ticket, it’s already there

When it comes to e-tickets, do you ever have any difficulty getting them validated at the counter? You have to open the cinema application, or even your mailbox, and we know very well that it is precisely at these moments that nothing works as planned. Fortunately, as long as the ticket has a QR code, Google Wallet can retrieve it, making the process much easier.

The Google tool now goes further by automatically extracting this type of document from your Gmail inbox. A practical integration which does not stop there, however, since boarding passes are also affected.

Please note, however, that the firm specifies that emails must include the complete elements of the ticket or card, and that “ This integration is currently rolling out to select theater chains and airlines worldwide “. So it’s possible that auto-add isn’t working for you yet. But, don’t panic, Google claims to be working on extending this functionality with other companies

An increasingly practical wallet

The latest Wallet update brings further improvements to boarding pass support. Schedules will be better displayed there, and it will be easier to access the airline’s app or website when needed.

Finally, tickets can now be archived manually, which can help tidy up the application’s home screen a little without deleting items, for example. This will be all the more appreciable if the automatic addition were to be overzealous.

In the near future, Wallet may also be able to better manage loyalty cards. In the beta version of the application, the benefits linked to these can be displayed directly, thanks in particular to integration with Google Shopping. It remains to be seen what traders will do with it.
