Google will make it easier to identify unknown numbers on Android

Too often we receive calls from unknown numbers, which can cause frustration and uncertainty. Google intends to put an end to this mystery and allow users to discover in just one click who is behind these nuisance calls, without having to juggle tedious copying and pasting.

A Lookup button should appear in the call log soon. Already offered on Pixel range smartphones in Japan, this one was spotted by the leaker AssembleDebug in beta version 127.0.620688474 of the Google Phone app. Once an unknown number calls, simply select the contact in question from the history and click on the Lookup button that appears next to other options such as Message or Add. In an instant, a Google search is launched, allowing you to quickly discover who is behind this call.

This feature goes way beyond simple convenience. In addition to saving time and avoiding tedious handling, the Lookup button can also help users filter unwanted calls and better manage their contact list. This reduces the risk of spam or cold calling. The caller must still be listed somewhere on the Web, which is not always the case.

Although this option is primarily available on Pixel smartphones or using the Google Phone app natively, it should be accessible more widely on all Android terminals, the application being freely downloadable from the Play Store.
