GoPro returns with a drone camera

GoPro had its heyday a few years ago. It was the heyday of action cams, oil bath stabilizers, in short, hardware engineers. Since then, the genius of image capture has passed into software and smartphones.

Still, GoPro is launching a new camera designed to be mounted on drones piloted in the first person (FPV – First-Person View).

Called HERO10 Black Bones, this camera is a scaled down, vented version of the Hero10 specifically designed to fit in a drone.

A camera powered by the drone’s battery

Weighing a pretty incredible 54g, the HERO10 Black Bones offers all the benefits of the full-size GoPro – 5.3K 60 FPS video, HyperSmooth stabilization, 1/2.3-inch image sensor and powerful GP2 processor – but it is of reduced size to be able to fly.

Besides its reduced size and weight, the biggest change of the HERO10 Black Bones is that it does not contain a battery. It is powered by the drone battery.

Note that a full-size HERO10 Black camera weighs 153g.

Like the HERO10 Black, the HERO10 Black Bones features a removable lens cap, which can be easily replaced if damaged.

A gap to fill in the market

The HERO10 Black Bones fills a void in the market that was previously filled by enthusiasts disassembling GoPros to make custom FPV drone cameras.

The HERO10 Black Bones is capable of capturing 5K video at 30fps, 4K video at 60fps, and 2.7K video at a super slow 120fps.

“Bones is an important step in our strategy to leverage GoPro camera technology to produce merchandise products that meet the needs of a specific customer audience,” said Nicholas Woodman, Founder and CEO of GoPro. “Bones delivers the image quality and performance of the HERO10 Black in a lightweight body that’s ideal for aerial cinematography. »

HERO10 Black Bones is offered at a price of 530 euros and for the time being only in the United States. There is no doubt that the product will soon arrive in France.
