Gorilla Armor: Corning eliminates reflections on the Galaxy S24 Ultra screen

Corning is one of the essential partners of smartphone manufacturers. If some are turning to more original solutions to ensure the durability of their screens, like Honor with its recent Magic 6 Lite, the American is generally working to protect smartphone screens. Its Gorilla Glass solutions equip Samsung models, including its Galaxy S24. The formalization of the three smartphones was the opportunity to present a new Gorilla Glass, called Gorilla Armor. It is reserved for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the S24 and S24+ being equipped with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the previous generation from Corning.

So what is the point of this Gorilla Armor? As always, its manufacturer resorts to comparison with aluminosilicate protective glasses. While the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 “had a scratch resistance threshold up to four times higher than competing aluminosilicate lenses”Corning assures that the Gorilla Armor “demonstrated more than four times greater scratch resistance” than its competitors, proving more durable in the face of everyday friction. Resistance to harsher shocks would also be significantly increasing: while the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 announced that it would be able to withstand falls on concrete twice as well, the Gorilla Armor announces “up to three times more resistance”. Enough to improve the durability of an S24 Ultra focusing on a certain robustness, as evidenced by the choice of a titanium frame, replacing the reinforced aluminum of the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

One last point is worth mentioning: while this data was not among the characteristics of previous Gorilla Glass, Corning promises that its Gorilla Armor is capable of reducing reflections by up to 75% on screens equipped with it. An interesting point, since the user is forced, to compensate for the reflections visible on the screen of their smartphone, to increase its brightness, thereby increasing their energy consumption and thereby reducing their autonomy. We will be sure to verify this statement when testing the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If the Samsung terminal is currently the only one to be equipped with it, there is no doubt that we will encounter Gorilla Armor in the months to come on more mobiles.
