government and Snat approve aid for oil heating

The Senate voted on Tuesday evening a government amendment to the draft amending budget for 2022 acknowledging aid of 230 million euros for homes heating with fuel oil, proposed by opposition deputies.

In the National Assembly, the amendment of LR Jrme Nury was voted with the alliance of opposition Nupes, LR and RN, while the government defended a more limited measure of 50 million euros.

The government amendment adopted by the Senate provides for the opening, under the energy, climate and post-mining programme, of 230 million euros of credits to finance targeted support measures for low-income households still heated by fuel oil, in a context rising energy prices. These measures will be specified by regulation and limited in time.

The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire proposed involving parliamentarians in defining the targeting of households that will be able to benefit from this additional aid. Three million people are still heated with fuel oil, according to the minister.

According to the rapporteur Jean-Franois Husson (LR), a form of targeting seems necessary, firstly to exclude households heating with oil from their secondary residence.
