The cast of the new government for Emmanuel Macron’s second five-year term was unveiled on Friday. Exit Jean-Michel Blanquer, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Florence Parly, Marlène Schiappa … Éric Dupond-Moretti, Gérald Darmanin, Bruno Le Maire and Clément Beaune keep their portfolios. Among the newcomers, we find Pap Ndiaye at the Ministry of National Education and Rima Abdul Malak at Culture. Unknown to the general public, she was until now the cultural and communication adviser to the Head of State. The transfer of power took place on Friday evening, rue de Valois, with Roselyne Bachelot.
One objective: to promote French culture
It was a handover full of emotion for Rima Abdul Malak, the new tenant of the premises, as for Roselyne Bachelot who is leaving rue de Valois after having spent 680 days there. The former Minister of Culture gave a speech for nearly 25 minutes to underline her action at the head of the ministry, marked in particular by the establishment of the culture pass for young people.
“Supporting culture and those who bring it to life in our country is an exhilarating mission. Madam Minister, dear Rima, I wish you the best. Long live culture, long live the Republic, long live France!” launched Roselyne Bachelot.
“It is such an honor to succeed you. We both have very different backgrounds, but we share, I believe, the same curiosity, the same insatiable appetite for art, literature, music, of theater that has guided our lives,” replied Rima Abdul Malak.
The new Minister of Culture, aged 43, already has a long career in the industry. Coming from the associative world, she also passed through the town hall of Paris at the time of Bertrand Delanoë, before being cultural attaché at the French Embassy in New York. His priority at the ministry is to promote French culture and encourage the practice of culture among young people.
