The record
Max Verstappen broke another Formula 1 record in Mexico. The 25-year-old Dutchman celebrated his 14th win of the season in the 20th race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. He surpassed the two Germans Michael Schumacher (in 2004) and Sebastian Vettel (2013), who had been able to celebrate 13 successes in one calendar year.
The course of the race
Verstappen, who is already the world champion, is currently dominating the “premier class” at will. He won 8 of the last 9 Grand Prix. In the third to last World Championship race of the year in Mexico, the pole setter clinched a start-finish victory that was never in doubt. And he ended a pole position curse: Since 2016, the qualifying winner has been denied a podium place in Mexico. Speaking of which: Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes and local hero Sergio Perez in the Red Bull completed the top 3.
The Alfa Romeo team
Valtteri Bottas was unable to turn his promising starting position into a top result. The Finn, who started from 6th place, managed to cross the finish line in the top 10 and scored a point. Guanyu Zhou in the second Alfa Romeo couldn’t get past 13th position.

The Formula 1 circus travels further south. The 20th World Championship round will take place in Brazil in 14 days. A week later, on November 20th, the season will come to a close in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
