Beyond the console features of the Steam DeckGPD products can claim to look more like a laptop PC.
If the arrival of Valve’s Steam Deck has given many manufacturers ideas, there are others who have been rolling around for a while now with multiple products to their credit. GPD is one of them.
A “real” laptop
Regulars of GPD machines know that the manufacturer is not completely trying to follow in the footsteps of Valve and its Steam Deck. Unlike AYANEO and other AOKZOE, there is no question here of copying the design of the American.
Rather than a product quite similar in form to the Nintendo Switch, GPD prefers to turn to a kind of mini-portable with an integrated screen with a 10.1-inch panel capable of displaying 1600p. The GPD Win Max 2 also has a keyboard and a trackpad.
At the heart of the beast, it’s a Core i5-1260P that drives things. It has 12 cores and 16 threads, but GPD also offers an AMD version with a Ryzen 7 6800 (8 cores and 16 threads) and, in either case, between 16 and 32 GB of RAM, and between 128 GB and 2 TB SSD.
Crowdfunding campaign
However, the GPD Win Max 2 is similar to machines like the Steam Deck, due to the integration of a gamepad on the sides of the trackpad. It is then possible to play directly with the machine without having to connect an additional controller.
This is of course possible thanks to the three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 connectors available and supplemented by two USB-C ports, one in 3.2 and the other in 4, which also allows the connection of an external GPU. SD card reader, microSD and 4G LTE modem (optional) are also on the menu.
