The release of the Steam Deck had caused a certain excitement around console/PC hybrids… about to be relaunched?
Already at the origin of the GPD Win Max 2 which seems to have had some success, the GPD brand continues its momentum by announcing a product that will bring back pleasant memories to Sony faithful.
A real physical keyboard
Indeed, GPD formalizes the GPD Win 4, a portable console whose style and shape are inevitably reminiscent of the Japanese Sony’s PlayStation Vita. Take a look at the photos, we can even note the presence of small “notches” on the sides.
The GPD Win 4 revolves around a 6-inch diagonal screen when its inspirations were content with a 4.3-inch (PSP), a 5-inch (PS Vita) or a 3.8-inch (PSP Go). We do not yet have any details about its image definition.
To justify the designation of hybrid console / PC, and in the manner of the GPD Win 3, the model 4 contains a real physical keyboard. It is accessible by sliding the screen part of the console, and even if the keys are obviously small, they seem perfectly usable.
Inevitable AMD Ryzen 7 6800U
At the heart of the GPD Win 4, we find a Ryzen 7 6800U APU signed AMD which is distinguished by its 8 Zen 3+ cores for the CPU part and its 12 RDNA 2 compute units for the GPU. A very fashionable APU already used by many competitors such as AYANEO or AOKZOE.
Even if it is advisable to keep a certain critical spirit, the machine being still far from being on the market, the aesthetics of this GPD Win 4 already seems to be a success. The screen seems to be a good size, and the controls are as complete as they are rather well placed.
GPD also evokes the presence of at least one USB-C port as well as a fingerprint reader. He specifies that an “optical” tackpad is included, and two colors would be available: black and white. Still, no release date has yet been announced, and the question of price obviously arises.
