GPT-5 would be available without anyone knowing

A newcomer in the LMSYS ranking, GPT2, is getting a lot of attention. Some even think it could be GPT-5 in disguise.

You are probably familiar with GPT-4, the most recent language model (LLM) officially presented by OpenAI. But did you know that a new LLM, GPT2, has made a sensational entry into the rankings LMSYS and could well be the successor to GPT-4?

A curious LLM named GPT2 appeared in the LMSYS ranking without any prior announcement, which is quite unusual for OpenAI.

GPT2 was created by OpenAI

However, it did not take long for it to be discovered that this LLM was indeed the work of OpenAI. Sam Altman, the company’s CEO, even joked about it on Twitterhinting that there might be more behind GPT2 than meets the eye.

GPT2’s capabilities are impressive, with reasoning performance that rivals that of the most powerful LLMs such as Llama 3, Gemini 1.5, and even GPT-4. This power suggests that GPT2 could be an update to GPT-4.5 or, better yet, a preview of GPT-5.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is no stranger to cryptic statements and jokes regarding his company’s future developments. For several months, he has been talking about the imminent arrival of GPT-5, without giving concrete details.
