- This year’s Grammy Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles.
- Female artists dominated the categories – and also won.
- Taylor Swift, SZA and Miley Cyrus, among others, were able to pick up the prestigious music awards.
Pop superstar Taylor Swift, R&B artist SZA and pop singer Miley Cyrus are among this year’s Grammy winners, music’s top honor. The major categories were already firmly in female hands after the nominations.
The South African comedian Trevor Noah confidently led the show and always caused laughter. For example, when he was with Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s parents asked why they had not fathered more children. That’s a waste of Grammy potential.
The artists SZA (“Kill Bill”) and Victoria Monét each received three Grammys. Monét, who has already written several hits for other stars, was named Best New Artist.
Miley Cyrus wins her first Grammy
Miley Cyrus won her first Grammy, the award for best pop solo performance, for her empowerment anthem “Flowers.” Cyrus said she got stuck in traffic in heavy rain in Los Angeles and almost missed the moment her name was called.
She also won the coveted Grammy for Record of the Year. The 31-year-old received the award for her hit “Flowers”.
Taylor Swift is making history
Pop superstar Taylor Swift won the Grammy for best album of the year and made history.
With “Midnights,” the 34-year-old won in the main category on Sunday evening in Los Angeles for the fourth time, following awards for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.”
“It makes me so happy,” Swift said in her acceptance speech. “I am incredibly overwhelmed that it makes some people happy and that they voted for this award.”
Swift left behind Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder, who each won three awards in the category.
She took advantage of the awards ceremony moment to announce that she is releasing a new album on April 19 called “The Tortured Poets Department”: “I would like to thank the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping in mind “I’ve been keeping it a secret from you for the last two years,” Swift said as she unveiled the new album.
Billie Eilish wins song of the year
Billie Eilish wins a Golden Gramophone for song of the year with “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie film. “You’re crazy,” she says in her acceptance speech, pointing to the quality of the songs in the selection.
The most Golden Gramophones were won by singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, who received four awards – three of them with her band Boygenius for the album “The Record” and the single “Not Strong Enough”.
In general, female empowerment is a priority this evening. Miley Cyrus verbally kneels in front of Mariah Carey, who presents her with the trophy. SZA praises Lizzo, with whom she began her career in small clubs. Taylor Swift dances and sings in the audience to every live performance by her fellow singers, and Oprah Winfrey remembers Tina Turner and calls her the goddess of rock.
Honorees were selected by the musicians, producers, engineers and others who make up the Recording Academy. After facing accusations of not being diverse enough in recent years, the Grammys were dominated this year by women and people of color.
