Sony released the latest generation of its own virtual reality headset on February 22, 2023. PlayStation VR 2 offers buyers various improvements compared to its predecessor.
Several games are available at launch, and some titles already available, such as Gran Turismo 7, are getting free updates that add VR compatibility.
The developers of the racing game, Polyphony Digital, have now released such an update for Gran Turismo 7. Patch 1.29 is available for download so you can start racing with Sony’s VR glasses right away.
Trailer also shows new cars
There’s also a trailer that sets the mood for the new update and gives a taste of the virtual reality experience. You can also see in the video which new cars will be added by the patch:
- Citroen DS 21 Pallas ’70 (1970)
- Honda RA 272 (1965)
- Porsche 911 Carrera RS (1973)
- Italdesign Exeneo Vision Gran Turismo Street Mode
- Italdesign Exeneo Vision Gran Turismo Off-Road Mode
You will also be able to take these cars onto the new Grand Valley Highway 1 route.
But that’s not all. Polyphony Digital also shows a mode called “Gran Turismo Sophy – drive together”, in which you compete against an artificial intelligence-led computer opponent who is said to be “superhuman”.
Almost entirely playable in VR
Gran Turismo 7 can be played almost completely in VR, only the two-player mode with the split screen (“splitscreen”) is not compatible with this. With high-contrast and sharp images and 3D audio sound, the developers want to offer you an immersive gaming experience.
You can look at each of the more than 450 cars with the headset in the VR showroom, be it the body from the outside or the interior from the inside.
