The Russian Grand Duke Georgi Romanov and Rebecca Bettarini got married in Saint Petersburg. While the first wedding dress looks simple and elegant, the bride goes into full bloom with the robe for the celebration in the evening, as photos show.

Almost a year after Georgi Romanov, 40, announced the engagement to the Italian Rebecca Bettarini, 39, the big wedding was celebrated in Saint Petersburg. On Friday, October 1st, 2021, the Russian Grand Duke and his Italian friend Victoria Romanovna Bettarini – born Rebecca Bettarini – said yes.

Georgi Romanov: First Russian aristocratic wedding in more than 100 years

A special event, as it is the first wedding of a member of the former tsarist family of Russia since 1917. The European nobility cannot miss the wedding of the century: Queen Sofia of Spain or Princess Tilsim of Liechtenstein are among the wedding guests.

The highlight of the ceremony is of course the moment when the bride enters St. Isaac’s Cathedral in a dress by Reem Acra and the Russian designer Elina Samarina. Similar to Duchess Meghan in May 2018, Rebecca Bettarini opted for an elegant satin dress that doesn’t need decorative stones to make an impression. The 27-carat Lacis diadem by Chaumet gives the dress the rest of the extravagance. The 39-year-old didn’t want to do without bling-bling and chose a much more elaborate bridal look for her second wedding dress.

Rebecca also stayed true to the satin fabric for the wedding party dress – at least for the floor-length coat with puff sleeves. The second wedding dress does not impress with its reduced design, but with its opulence.

After an elegant but simple dress in the church, Victoria Romanowna Bettarini presented a much more elaborate wedding dress at the wedding reception.

It almost looks as if it were a mixture of tulle for the underskirt, for more volume and embroidered chiffon fabric for the overskirt. The corsage is embroidered over and over with lots of small decorative stones that reflect in the flash of the cameras. The bride wears her hair half pinned up for the celebration, but the diadem is not dispensed with.
